The reader’s question:
Hey, Wally, I came across your website to investigate my problem. I’m hoping someone can help me. Last week Windows updated my laptop and just after that the G, H and Start keys stopped working.
Luckily I could use the touchscreen to fill in the missing letters, but this is a big disadvantage. When I did a Google search for this problem, it seems to have happened to a lot of other people after the automatic update (with the same letters, no less), so it’s clearly a problem.
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this problem or does he have a website that does this kind of thing well? I tried to reinstall the keyboard driver and reset the computer to an earlier date while turning it on and off. Thank you so much!

Before solving a computer problem, I always recommend scanning and correcting the underlying problems that affect the health and performance of your PC:
- Step 1 : Download the PC repair and optimization program (WinThruster for Win7, XP, Vista – Microsoft Gold Certified).
- Step 2 : Click the Start scan button to detect problems in the Windows registry that may cause problems with the PC.
- Step 3 : Click the Restore All button to solve all problems.
Setting up automatic weekly (or daily) scanners will help you avoid system problems and get your PC up and running quickly and smoothly.
Wally’s answer: Windows updates are important. But they can sometimes disrupt certain functions.
In this case, the driver of the buggy is the culprit.
You have nothing to worry about. We fixed this in no time.
Problem
Some keys on the keyboard no longer work after a Windows update.
Soil
A defective driver update causes some keys on the keyboard (and possibly the trackpad) to stop.
Solution
The easiest way to solve this problem is to remove the driver update and disable the driver update in Windows.
Then install an older version of the driver.
Uninstall driver
The driver we need to uninstall is the Synaptics trackpad driver or the trackpad driver of your laptop.
Press the Windows +X button and click Device Manager to open it.
Then locate the trackpad driver under the mouse and other pointing devices.
Right-click and click Remove to remove it from Windows.
Disabling Windows drivers
With this guide from Microsoft, you can hide problematic window updates.
If you run it, it looks like the screenshot above.
Installing the trackpad driver
Install an older version of the trackpad driver to avoid the current driver error. You can do this by visiting your computer manufacturer’s website.
You may be asked to enter a unique serial number to identify your computer model. It’s usually printed on a sticker.
You can also enter the notebook model manually.
Then select the operating system and the old version of the driver (in this case the trackpad driver).
Sometimes it is not clear, but usually there is a link somewhere on the page to install an older version of the driver.
Reboot the computer after installation. You have to use the trackpad. The keyboard should now function normally.

Is your PC in good health?
I always advise my readers to regularly use a reliable registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. Many of the problems that arise can be attributed to a corrupt and inflated register.
