Terms such as Ethernet and configuration can seem very complicated. However, it is the way your system informs you that there are problems with your internet connection. You don’t need to have your computer at your fingertips to solve these problems. You can restore your Internet connection in just a few steps.
IP is a type of unique identifier assigned to any device connected to the Internet anywhere in the world. An IP configuration problem occurs when your system is having trouble establishing a connection. Under normal circumstances, an IP address is automatically assigned to your device, but if you are notified, you may need to make some changes to give your device an IP address in order to continue to access the Internet.
Regardless of the device you are using or the service provider you rely on, you are likely to see a message that Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration.
Here are some simple and proven solutions:
1. Basic technique
Whatever the problem on your computer, the first method we ask you to try is rebooting. It is a quick method that can easily solve any problem. Before connecting to the Internet, turn the system off and restart it. The other thing you can do is reboot the router or modem.
Take a break of at least 2 minutes before you start. If your internet connection works properly, your problem is solved. If not, try one of the tips below.
2. TCP/IP reset via command line
This is the next easiest way to solve your Internet connection problem from the command line. Here we are working again to reset the network settings that help your system connect to the Internet. To do this,
- Open the command line window. You can perform a quick search in the search area of your device
- Right-click on the search result and select Run as Administrator from the drop-down menu.
- A dialog box entitled User Account Control appears on the screen. Press Yes to continue.
- A command window appears on the screen. Enter the following commands sequentially,
Resetting the winsock grid
network resets in IP networks
These commands are used to reset your computer’s Internet settings.
- Press Enter to execute the command. If pop-ups appear on the screen, click on the option to continue. After the second command, restart your computer to apply the changes you have made.
- Make sure you can connect to the Internet without any problems.

3. Clear DNS cache
Like resetting the IP address, clearing the DNS cache requires a command line. Follow the steps above to open the command line. A set of commands to empty the DNS cache,
ip-configure / Activate
ipconfig / update
Type these commands on consecutive lines by pressing the Enter key after each command. Restart the system after entering the commands. Verify that the problem with the Ethernet connection persists. DNS stands for Domain Name System, the method by which an IP address is created. Clearing the DNS cache, for example, can help solve problems with Internet IP addresses.
You must be able to connect to the router using the IP address 10.0.0.2.
4. Network adapter Driver
This is the most important program that controls the communication between your system and the global network. A hiccup in this program can cause problems with your internet connection. In this case, all you have to do is uninstall and reinstall the program. Follow the steps below to reinstall the Network Adapter Driver.
- Execute the command prompt by pressing Windows+R.
- At the startup prompt, enter the command
And press the Enter key.
- Select the Network Adaptor option to display the list of available options. Select Uninstall Device by right-clicking on the driver.
- Confirm and continue if a dialog box appears.
- Reboot the system. When you restart, the system automatically updates the network adapter driver.
- This largely solves the connection problems. If the problem persists, follow the first steps to connect to the network adapter.
- Right-click to open the drop-down menu and select Update Driver.
- Verify that the IP Ethernet problem has been resolved.
5. Change TCP/IP manually
You can also change the TCP/IP setting manually if the problem persists. To do this,
- Open the command prompt to execute by pressing Windows+R.
- At the command prompt, type ncpa.cpl
- Right-click the Ethernet option in the output and select Properties.
- To do so, select Internet Protocol version 6.
- Select the Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS address automatically checkbox.
- Verify that the network connection problem has been resolved.
6. Disabling antivirus
In some cases, your system’s anti-virus software may prevent the proper functioning of your Ethernet network. Under these conditions you can temporarily disable the virus protection of your software. Depending on the antivirus software you are using, turn it off for a while and see if the problem has been solved. However, it is not recommended to disable the antivirus program on the system.
In most cases, the Ethernet error does not have a valid IP configuration. Problems with the Ethernet connection can be solved by following these steps. Start with a simple restart and check after each step that the problem has been solved to avoid complications.
