Two ways to create websites with Divi
Let’s start at the beginning…
One of the most interesting aspects of the Divi theme is that it gives you multiple options to customize your website depending on your preferences and the flexibility you want to add to the design.
First of all, there’s the original way Divi uses a regular WordPress theme. When we wrote the Divi-thematic test, it was the only option. You will use WordPress Customizer settings to check your positions, such as header, footer, sidebar, and so on.
You can then use the visual Divi Builder for the content itself, using drag and drop. If you z. B. Create your homepage, you can use Divi Builder to manage everything between header and footer.
The second track is new. At least the new one with Divi 4.0.
Now you also have access to all the possibilities of theme creation. If you’re not familiar with creating themes, it’s basically the idea that using drag and drop you can design 100% of your website with a visual editor.
When you create themes, you are actually developing templates for your theme, not individual content elements. And with Divi 3.0, you have access to a brand new visual editor. With this visual editor you can change exactly what your readers see. You’ll never guess what your site will look like!

Divi Builder makes it possible for everyone, even people without programming knowledge, to create beautiful pages.
The only thing that should be noted is that Divi Builder is based on a grid. This is quite standard for page builders, but you should know that with a solution like Headway Theme Builder, you won’t be able to drag and drop items where you want. You’ll be chained to the grid you set up.
Connecting to Divi builder

Using the Divi builder
Designing with Divi is easy. When you create a new page, all you have to do is add rows or columns. I’ll show you how to use the visual editor, but the process is essentially the same as the standard editor.
Click the + button to open the Add Line window:
Click on the desired configuration. Then you’ll see your new line in the interface. I’ve chosen a row of two columns:
Once you have your line, you need to insert the module. While the channels organize everything, the modules represent the actual content shown to your users. You can use modules to add images, price tables, buttons and much more.
Once you have added a module, Divi will ask you to enter the correct information for that module. For example, when you add a pricing table, Divi will ask you to enter several pricing options:

You can also customize colors and fonts to change the design.
It may take a few minutes, but once you’ve done that, you can design detailed pages in no time.
Divi Thematic user interface – Simple and intuitive customization of the site
Now that you’ve seen the Divi builder, let’s go to the Divi Theme section.
After installing the Divi theme, you will see a new Divi option in the sidebar. These links are the gateway to all your Divi settings.
Divi Theme options – customizing the basic elements of your website
Divi’s new thematic options menu is a big improvement over previous versions. Unlike most themes, even the theme options are beautifully designed:
These options allow you to adjust the basic data of your website. You don’t have to do anything super visual here – the most important changes are saved for the WordPress Customizer so you can see them in real time.
Divi Theme Builder – Create your own solid theme with Visual Builder
Previously, you could only use Divi Builder’s visual drag-and-drop feature to create content for your individual messages and pages. This is certainly useful, but it was still limited because you still couldn’t use Visual Builder to design headers, footers or templates for your blog posts.
Everything changed to Divi 4.0. In version 4.0, the Divi team introduced drag and drop of the theme in Divi.
It’s a very powerful property. It essentially allows you to take the same visual interface you saw above and apply it to your theme template files, including your :
- Title
- Footer line
- Custom templates (e.g. a template that is used in all your blog posts, or a template that uses a custom message type).
- Archived templates (e.g. a template that lists all the articles in your blog or custom articles).
- WooCommerce unique product pages
- WooCommerce store pages
If you don’t know what a theme creator is, let me explain the difference between using Divi to create some posts/pages and using it to create theme templates.
With the usual Divi Builder you can create a new blog post and use Divi to create a custom layout for that post. However, this classification only applies to this one message. If you want to use it for another article, you have to copy it manually to the same layout and change the content.
Divi’s theme maker works differently. With Theme Builder you can create a template that automatically applies to some / all of your blog posts. This way, once you have created your template, you can simply add content via the usual WordPress editor and that content will automatically use the template you have defined with Divi.
What’s really cool is that you can create different templates for different content. For example, you could do that. For example, create a template for blog posts in the How-to category and another template for blog posts in the Reviews category.
Creating a template
If you use the Divi Theme Builder, you can start by creating a global header, a global body, and a global footer. These are the standard templates used on your site.
You can also make your own custom-made articles that only apply to specific situations. For example, you can create a different text template for certain message types, message categories, and so on.

For your custom templates, you have several options for managing the assignment of custom templates.

This gives you a lot of flexibility because you can create optimized templates for each unique situation. And don’t forget – your content automatically inherits these templates – you don’t have to lift a finger.

Design model with dynamic content
You will use the same Divi Builder visual interface to develop models. The main difference is that you have access to dynamic content modules.
These modules allow you to dynamically import content from the model.
For example, let’s say you develop a template for a blog post. Each blog post has its own title, so you can’t just insert static text where you want the blog title. Instead, add a post header module that automatically enters all headers of each blog post:
What’s really powerful is that you don’t limit yourself to dynamic content that comes from the basic WordPress software. You can also draw dynamic content from any custom fields you create, which offers many possibilities for creating custom WordPress sites.
For example, it looks like when you insert custom field information from the popular Advanced Custom Fields plugin into a plain text module (you can also use other plugins such as Toolset or Pods) :

Here you can customize literally every aspect of your website without having to know a single line of code.
For example, say you don’t want to show your logo. What are you doing? By digging in the code of your theme, do you remove the line representing the logo? No, click on the main menu bar and check the box next to the image of the Hide logo:
Or let’s say you want to give your site a framed layout instead of the standard layout across the board. Just go to the layout settings and check the box:
Do you understand the idea? It’s very powerful. And it’s great that you can see your changes in real time. Many premium themes like to create their own control panel. With a custom administration panel, you’ll need to save and refresh your site each time to see your changes.
But because Divi uses the WordPress Customizer, you don’t have to. Simply make changes to the intuitive interface and click Save when you are happy with the way it looks.
Divi Module Customizer – simple module customization for Divi Builder
Remember the modules/elements I told Divi Builder about? You can also customize them using the WordPress customization tool. It’s pretty cool and, as far as I know, unique among the WordPress site creators.
You can open it by clicking on Module configuration in the dashboard.
If you z. For example, if you want to easily change the appearance of the price table in the previous example, you can go to the option Price table:
If you click on it, you can easily manipulate the appearance of all price tables on your pages.
With just a few clicks you can change the format of the text, highlight relevant parts in bold and change the basic details of the appearance of your modules:
You can do this for most modules available in Divi Builder. It’s a very nice feature of the theme. You can make changes throughout the site in a simple and familiar interface. This will save you a lot of time!
Divi Lines – Test your content for optimal performance
Divi Leads is an incredibly powerful split test tool for content optimization. If you do something commercial with your Divi website, this tool will literally put more money in your pocket. I’m not exaggerating – split testing is incredibly important for optimizing your website.
If you’re not familiar with split testing, it’s actually a matter of comparing two different versions of your site. For example, you can change the text of a button, but leave everything else unchanged. Then show 50% of your visitors with one button and the other 50% of your visitors with another button. With this test you will find out which option gets the most clicks.
Imagine testing a button that allows you to subscribe people to your newsletter. If you could increase the number of people clicking this button, it would immediately lead to more successful mailings, wouldn’t it? That’s exactly what this job does.
Divi Leads makes split testing easy, even for beginners. When creating a Divi Builder page, right-click in Divi Builder and select Split Test :

Divi Library – Save design elements for reuse
Since you probably want to reuse some design elements on different pages of your site, Divi allows you to store designs in what is called a Divi library.

These features make mounting in Divi easy. If you inevitably make mistakes, it’s not a catastrophic situation. Just restore the latest working version and you’re ready to go!
Prefabricated layouts – save time creating your designs
If you don’t want to customize your designs from scratch, Divi comes with over 1,400 preset layouts for immediate use. These templates are also organized into different layout sets, giving you access to a number of templates built on the same basic design.
Each time you create a new page, you can select one of these layouts instead of a blank page. Then all you have to do is add your own content and you have a nice website with very little work:
SectionSupport and documentation
Elegant Themes, the company behind Divi, offers an incredible level of support for self-help themes. Not only do they have an extensive knowledge base, but they also regularly publish tutorials on their blog.
And if you need to talk to a real person, it has a support forum accessible to all paying customers. Honestly, forcing people to use the support forum is one of the parts of Divi’s support system that I like least. But between the support forum and the huge knowledge base on self-help, you can always find answers to your questions.
Overview of Divi-subjects: Price
The Divi theme is not for sale as a separate theme. Rather, it is part of the elegant theme set. Is that a bad thing? Personally, I don’t think so. With plugins like Monarch and Bloom, Elegant Themes offers a lot of value outside of Divi.
You can either pay an annual membership fee to access Elegant Themes, or purchase a more expensive single membership. Here you can see the costs you can expect for the different levels:
If you can afford it and know that you will be using Divi for a long time, the one-time price of $249 could be economically attractive.
Of course it’s a lot of money to start with, but you get unlimited upgrades and lifetime support. So, as long as you plan to use Elegant Themes products for over ~3 years, you will do well.

Divi Review: Conclusion
It’s not for nothing that Divi is the king of multi-faceted themes. If you’re a regular WordPress user, I don’t think there’s an easier way to create such a wide range of beautiful designs.
Divi Builder and Divi Leads are incredibly valuable tools in themselves. Divi Builder is already one of the best page builders. The integration of the theme is a great advantage.
Divi Leads also eliminates the need to integrate a third-party split testing service, saving you a lot of time. Since it is integrated with Page Builder, I think it is one of the easiest ways to share a test with WordPress.
Finally, with the addition of the Divi Theme Builder to Divi 4.0, you have access to an important new feature that will help you create custom websites. By integrating dynamic content, you can also benefit from the flexibility of WordPress as a CMS.
I know there are cheaper themes, but when you compare the value you get for the money you spend, I don’t think these cheaper themes really save money or time.
